TF : Textile Engineering and Fibre Science MN : Mining Engineering ONLINE Examination : Examination using computers where the candidate will select the correct answer out of four options with the help of keyboard and mouse OFFLINE Examination : Examination in the usual manner as in the previous years where the candidate will mark the correct answer out of four options in an Optical Response Sheet (ORS) by darkening the appropriate bubble.
The list of papers for GATE 2010 is given under Structure of GATE. The question papers will be in English only.
Before applying for GATE 2010, candidates must assure themselves that they have chosen the right paper, which qualifies them to become eligible to seek admission to the specific programme they are interested in. The criteria for postgraduate admission with Scholarship/ Assistantship are different in various Institutes/ Universities. GATE Offices will not provide any information in this regard. For more details, the candidates are required to contact the Institutes/ Universities to which they are interested in seeking admission.
The choice of the paper is the responsibility of the candidate. Information about the pattern of the question papers is given under Question Paper Pattern. |

# GG (Geology and Geophysics) paper will consist of two parts: Part A and Part B. Part A will be common for all candidates. Part B will contain two sections: Section 1 (Geology) and Section 2 (Geophysics). Candidates will have to attempt questions in Part A and either Section 1 or Section 2 in Part B.
$ GATE 2010 examination for Mining Engineering (MN) and Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) papers will be computer based ONLINE examination.

A candidate appearing in XE or XL paper will be required to answer three sections. Section A is compulsory in XE paper and Section H is compulsory in XL paper. The candidate can choose any two out of the remaining sections listed against the respective papers.
The choice of the appropriate paper is the responsibility of the candidate. Some guidelines in this respect are suggested below:
Candidate is expected to appear in a paper (one of the listed above) appropriate to the discipline of his/her qualifying degree.
Candidate is, however, free to choose any paper according to his/her admission plan, keeping in mind the eligibility criteria of the institutions in which he/she wishes to seek admission. |

For foreign Bachelor’s Degree, not recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, proper certification by a National Body constituted in the country concerned for granting equivalence will have to be produced.

B.E. / B.Tech. (Textiles / Apparel / Mechanical / Industrial / Production / Electronics / Computer / Information Technology)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Candidates appearing for their qualifying examinations can also apply. Their admission, however, will be provisional and subject to obtaining the defined eligibility. Proof of the candidates having successfully passed the qualifying examination will have to be produced at the time of joining the programme. In case, candidates do not produce the required documents by 30th June, 2009, their admission will be cancelled and 50% of the tuition fee will be refunded. Non fulfillment of the above conditions will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.
ADMISSION TEST
All eligible candidates will have to appear for a written entrance examination at the Examination Centres opted by them. The written entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the programmed opted.
The objective type tests are subject to negative marking. The negative marking will apply at the rate of 0.25 for each wrong answer.
The written entrance examination will be conducted on 8th February, 2009 at the cities mentioned in the table.
The candidate has to select only ONE city for the examination. The candidate should write the two-digit Exam Centre Code on the OMR(Optical Marker Reader) Application Form at item no. 15, and shade the corresponding oval below each digit.
Candidature are cautioned to fill this code and shade correctly as the allotment of the required Examination Centre will be based on this information only.
Please note that NIFT reserves the right to cancel any of the Examination Centres mentioned. In such case , alternate centre which is administratively convenient will be allotted.
IMPORTANT:
The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility criteria for admission to the examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination for which they are admitted by NIFT viz. Written Test, Situation Test, Group Discussion and Interview (as the case may be) will be purely provisional, subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. If on verification at any time before or after the Written Test, Situation Test, Group Discussion and Interview (as the case may be), It is fond that candidate does not fulfill any eligibility criteria, his / her candidature for the examination shall stand cancelled without any notice or further reference.

Qualifying Examination for Admission to Master of Design (M.Des.) Programmes at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur, and Ph.D. Programmes in Design in some of these Institutes, for the Academic Year 2009- 2010.
Objective: Assessment of aptitude for design, involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, and communication skills
Application Form and Brochure: CEED Application Form may be submitted either ONLINE (Internet based) or OFFLINE (by POST/in person)
- OFFLINE Application Form and Information Brochure can be obtained from the GATE Office, IIT Bombay, on payment of non-refundable application fee of Rs.990/- (Rs.495/- for SC/ST/PD Applicants) by crossed demand draft in favour of IIT Bombay payable at Mumbai. These can be collected personally at the GATE Office counter, or can be obtained by post by sending a request letter along with DD. Two address slips should be enclosed along with the request. Completed application should be submitted to the same address, either at the counter, or by Speed Post. b)

- Designated Bank Branches corresponding to each zone on cash payment.
- Zonal GATE Office by sending a request letter and TWO self-addressed slips along with a Demand Draft for appropriate amount.
- Zonal GATE Office after handing over Demand Draft for appropriate amount.

The candidates must obtain a Demand Draft, drawn on any nationalized bank in favor of Chairman of the corresponding zonal GATE Office, the website of which the candidate wishes to submit online Application. In case of IIT Bombay, DD should be drawn in favor of "IIT Bombay", payable at MUMBAI. |

All candidates fulfilling the requirements of minimum qualification and within the prescribed age limit will be called for the Entrance Test (DAT or NEED) to be conducted at 12 centres — Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Oman.
(NID reserves its right to cancel any of these centres).

Hall Ticket/ Call Letter will be posted by December 20, 2008. Those who do not receive the call letters by the end of December 2008 may get in touch with NID’s Admissions Unit. Admission is on the basis of NID’s method of selection, which extends beyond the students previous academic qualifications. The NID Admission Committee systematically seeks evidence of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation essential for a challenging and satisfying design career. The objective of the tests and the interviews is to ascertain the above qualities. The tests at the various centres will consist of design aptitude tests. Based on scores obtained from these tests, shortlisting of candidates to be called for second phase will be done.
The second phase of the admission procedure will consist of studio tests followed by personal interviews at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar.
Dates of the studio tests/ interviews:
GDPD is scheduled from April 23 – 25, 2009
PGDPD is scheduled from April 27 – May 1, 2009
Call letters for this phase of the interview will be posted by March 26, Friday, 2009. This information will also be available on NID’s website www.nid.edu. All those candidates called for the second phase are required to attend the studio tests and interview, which completes the process of selection.
The Admission Committee decides the procedures, grades and weightage every year. The norms for the selection are the sole prerogative of the Admission Committee and the decision of the Admission Committee and the Management in any of the matters concerning the admission process and selection will be final. Any direct or indirect attempt to influence the admission committee or its members, academic office bearers or management will lead to the automatic disqualification of the candidate(s).
Prescribed percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to various reserved categories scheduled as per the norms of the Government of India. The OBC reservation is in effect in stages and the new academic year 2009-2010 envisages the second stage of reservation.

Application forms along with the prospectus for the ensuing academic year will be made available on request from the second week of October on payment of Rs.1500/- (Rs.750/- for reserved categories) by a Demand Draft of any nationalised bank drawn in favour of the ‘National Institute of Design’ payable at Ahmedabad.
Forms downloaded from NID’s website along with required amount of DD drawn in favour of National Institute of Design payable at Ahmedabad will also be accepted.
Forms can also be obtained from select branches of Bank of India (listed below) on payment of Rs 1500/- towards the cost of the form plus Rs 30/- as bank charges. (Forms at concessional rates to reserved categories are available only from NID, Ahmedabad.)
